Beach Kiwanis Awards Scholarships

110

The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club’s 2019 Scholarship recipients included five 2019 graduating high school seniors and eleven renewal scholarships for students who qualified to receive continuing scholarships for the next academic year at their colleges or universities.

Club Secretary and Scholarship Chairperson Paula McCarthy presented this year’s scholarships to high school graduates who were members of their Key Clubs or were residents of Fort Myers Beach. The Beach Kiwanis Club now sponsors two Key Clubs, one at South Fort Myers High School and the newest is at Cypress Lake High School.

Each scholarship recipient must be a student in good standing and volunteer at the FMB Kiwanis Thrift Shop for at least 20 hours during the year prior to their award. Standard Scholarship awards total $2,000 each. Each student must complete a new or renewal application on the club’s web site, and may be awarded for every year that they continue their college education for a maximum of four years.

Kiwanis Thrift Shop

Scholarship funding is the result of the success of the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Thrift Shop located at Summerlin Rd and Pine Ridge Rd, and is just one of the many projects sponsored by the Beach Kiwanis Club with Thrift Shop funds. Scholarship money is sent directly to the students’ colleges and universities’ financial aid offices. Kiwanis members are very thankful for generous donations to the Thrift Shop, for volunteers who contribute valuable time at the store and for the many residents and visitors who shop at the store who make these scholarships possible.

The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club was established in 1968. Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
