The volunteer advisory group, Bay Oaks Recreational Center Advisory Board or BORCAB for short, tasked with supporting the mission of and advising Town Council on the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus, meets monthly. Here are some of the highlights of their recent November meeting:
Bay Oaks will now be open on Sundays from noon – 6pm, starting immediately. Watch for Special Family Day announcements.
The tennis courts will be resurfaced in late November so they will be ready for a busy winter season.
A new air conditioning system is planned for installation in Spring 2017.
Fright Night, Oct. 21st, was a huge success! 712 attended the event, raising over $1,200 from admission and concessions sales. A record 56 volunteers helped with games, the haunted trail and haunted house. A special thank you to judges: Anita Cereceda, Town council member; Dr. Leroy Hommerding, Beach Library Director; Janna Holmes, BORCAB member; Cathy Trent, former Beach Elementary teacher and Mike Coenen, Beach Fire Battalion Chief.
The search for a new Director of Parks & Recreation is underway. A search committee will assist Town staff in reviewing over 160 applicants. The search committee includes: Becky Bodnar, BORCAB member; Jeffrey Dobbins, Principal Beach Elementary; Matt Famin, Sanibel Parks and Rec Director, and Joanne Shamp, LPA member.
