Battalion Chief Michael Coenen

It is with heavy hearts the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department announces the passing of Battalion Chief Michael Coenen. Chief Coenen had waged a long battle with recurrent cancer and passed away in the comfort of his home with his wife and close family Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Chief Coenen had an impressive and accomplished career with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department and served our community with pride and distinction for 19 years. He was a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, and rose quickly through the ranks obtaining the rank of Battalion Chief. Chief Coenen was an inspiring, passionate and committed public servant and his Public Safety family will miss him greatly. We ask our community to join us in keeping the Coenen family in your thoughts during this very difficult time.

There will be a memorial ceremony at the Beach Baptist Church on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11am to commemorate Chief Coenen’s service and life. At the request of the Coenen family, donations for the Firefighters Cancer Support Network in Battalion Chief Michael Coenen’s name are requested in lieu of flowers.
