Family Initiative, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting children who have autism and strengthening their families, raised $8,000 to support its mission Sunday during a silent auction and Autism Acceptance Month Event.
More than 250 locals came out to Nervous Nellie’s on Fort Myers Beach to raise awareness of autism, which affects 1 in 68 children across the country.
“This event was such a blessing for families like ours,” said Alayna Fillman, parent of a child with autism. “Family Initiative is the only local program that provides this support to kids and young adults with autism, and their families, and we appreciate them so much.”
“Family Initiative is proud to work with these children and their families across Southwest Florida,” said David Brown, President of Family Initiative, Inc. “Families with children on the autism spectrum need many services, including the opportunity to connect with one another. The money we are raising will help fund our dream to provide a permanent location to provide these critical services.”
