Art Show Opens

Now on exhibit in the Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery is the juried and judged art show, “Not the Status Quo.” On Sunday, January 19, the FMBAA held a reception, gallery talk and awards program for the show, which features paintings by members and non-members. The show was judged by renowned artist, Bonnie Broitzman. The  gallery talk “Perception of Beauty” was presented by Artist and Professor Francesco Gillia. Fresh Catch Bistro sponsored this event and supplied refreshments. Artwork in this exhibit is available for viewing and purchase until February 6, 2020.

First Prize was presented to Julie Nusbaum for “Watching.” Dannica Walker was awarded second Prize for “The Grinder.” Third prize went to Sue Pink for “NY, NY.”

The Lee Ackert Award was presented to Linda Robinson for “It’s for the Birds.”  The Sylvia Kasparies Award went to Lynne Wesolowski for her collage piece, “Serendipity.”

Merit Awards were presented to the following: Starlin Sherwood for “Rodeo Rider” and Catherine Kendrick for “Dancing in the Light -Series III.” Honorable Mention awards went to Marie Crist for “Hidden Oasis,” and Michele Barron Buelow for “Stormy Sunrise.”

Anyone interested in learning to paint, can choose from several short classes and workshops at the Fort Myers Beach Art Association this season. Check the website www.fortmyersbeachart.com to see all the exciting classes.
