The Fort Myers Beach Art Association (FMBAA) invites the public to support the local arts and local graduating student artists by participating in this year’s Student Scholarship Awards. The gallery will display submitted artworks from potential scholarship recipients from March 25-29 at the FMBAA gallery located at 3030 Shell Mound Blvd, Fort Myers Beach. This exhibit will contain works from college bound seniors from Cypress Lake Center for the Arts, Cypress Lake High School as well as the work of 6th-8th graders from Cypress Lake Middle School.
The Fort Myers Beach Art Association invites visitors and residents to support their local student scholarship program by shopping at the Art Bazaar at Santini Plaza on March 19. The proceeds from this sale and other events contribute to the FMBAA scholarship funds awarded annually totaling over $3000. The Student Exhibit will be in the Gallery from March 25 – 29. The FMBAA will award the scholarships at a reception held on March 26, 1-3pm at the gallery at 3030 Shell Mound Blvd. Admission is free to the public.
Judges Chastant and Lee
Judging this year’s Student Scholarship Show will be two artists from Shell Point Retirement Village, Renee Chastant and Marge Lee.
Renée Chastant has been a Humane Society investigator, a comedy writer, Human Resources professional and a practicing attorney. She returned to art, her first love, in 2007 after a 35-year absence.
A juried member of the Littleton Fine Arts Guild in Colorado, her work has appeared in the Denver area in several galleries. A signature member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, Chastant’s art is displayed in Tucson and Tubac, Arizona, Texas and Florida, where she currently resides. She is an active member of the Sanibel-Captiva Art League.
“Color animates my soul,” says artist Renée Chastant. “Art is a way for me to translate my inner voices.”
Marge Lee began her museum career as director of marketing and public relations for The Saint Louis Art Museum. She then served in the same role at The Baltimore Museum of Art. Next Marge developed and managed a marketing program for 17 museums and historic sites of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. When husband David’s career took the couple to Pennsylvania, Marge began consulting. Today she continues to provide services to museum clients nationwide. Over the past two decades her focus has broadened into interpretive planning and curation for exhibitions. Marge and David moved to Shell Point in 2014; since that time she has been focused in projects at Shell Point involving commissioned art works. She also organized Ageless Creativity: The Artists of Shell Point, which recently presented nearly 200 artworks by 49 Shell Point artists in the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Fort Myers. Marge also hosts Art Chat on Shell Point TV, which stars the talented artists of Shell Point.
