    Residents of Delmar Avenue are invited to attend a meeting on TH July 14 from 5-6:30pm at Town Hall. Join Town Staff, a Town Council Member and Town Engineer to discuss various options for your street’s bay access. The Bayside Park (at the bay end of Old San Carlos Blvd.) meeting will take place WE July 20 at 5pm.


    During the summer months local blood banks really need blood donors as many regular donors have headed north for the summer. Upcoming blood drives:

    FR July 15, 7:30-11:30am at FMB Fire Station 31, 3043 Estero Blvd; 12:30-3:30pm at Love Boat Ice Cream.

    SA July 30, 9am-5pm at Lani Kai.


    Chapel by the Sea and Lee Memorial Trauma Center are hosting a free Fall Prevention Health event at Chapel by the Sea, 100 Chapel St, on TU July 12 from 2-3pm. Adult falls are the leading cause of injury and death in Lee County. The program includes a “Step Wise Lee” presentation. They will also offer brief individual balance screenings on TU July 26 from 2-3pm. Call 239-463-3173 x 20 to register.


    Snook Bight Marina, a Suntex Marina property, will be supporting Folds of Honor Foundation during the month of July by donating 3% of all marina store sales to the foundation, whose mission is to provide scholarships to the families of fallen and wounded soldiers. All 29 Suntex locations are participating in this effort.


    Author William Brown, of North Fort Myers will available to sign copies of his book, “A Horse Called Nevada,” on SA July 9 from 1-3pm at Annette’s Book Nook in Santini Marina Plaza.


    Beach School students and their families are invited to an Open House at Beach Elementary on SA, Aug 6 from 9-10am. Following the Open House, a pool party will take place at the Beach Pool from 10-11:30am featuring ice cream donated by Truly Scrumptious!


    Those with an interest in Bonsai are invited to attend the monthly meeting of the Bonsai Society of SWFL on SA July 16 at 9am at the SPLAC building on Metro Plantation Road, Fort Myers. Raffles will be held and members are encouraged to bring trees for advice. Bonsai (pronounced ‘bone-sigh’) is the practice of raising small artistic trees in pots.     Community Cooperative will increase the delivery of Meals on Wheels to 6 days a week beginning in August and needs 35 more drivers for Saturday mornings. They could also use volunteers for their other shifts: Mo-SA 6-9am; 9am-1pm and MO-FR 12-4pm.     Have fun serving your community and others! The Fort Myers Beach Lions meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at St. Raphael’s Parish Hall, 5601 Williams Dr, FMB. Social Hour starts at 6pm and the meeting begins at 7pm. Anyone interested in joining this great organization can learn more by visiting their website at or joining them for a meeting.


    It’s turtle nesting season on our beach and nests are almost ready to hatch. Please do your part to protect the turtles, nests and hatchlings when they emerge! Shield your lights so that they are not visible from anywhere on the beach. Better yet, replace existing bulbs with Amber LED bulbs! Find lights here: Stack or remove beach furniture. Remove beach litter. Keep pets on a leash. Stay far away from any turtles or marked nests you may encounter! Fill in any holes you dig in the sand. Please remember, your actions can mean life or death to endangered sea turtles! Report injured turtles by calling Turtle Time at 239-481-5566.

    Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs.     The Lee County Spirit of ‘ 45 Celebration will be held on SU, Aug 14 from 4:15-7:15pm at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort. The agenda will include Dinner, Color Guard, Pledge, National Anthem, Guest Speakers, Guns & Hoses Pipes and Drums, POW/MIA Service, Hanging of Wreath and Taps.     Explore the natural treasures on Fort Myers Beach through a guided walk along the shore every TU at 9am. Participants meet at Newton Park, 4650 Estero Blvd. Wear sunscreen, appropriate clothing, shoes and hats. Tours ~ 1 hour, weather permitting. 239-765-0865


    Don’t miss Ethan Uslan, Ragtime Pianist in concert on TH July 14 at 7:30pm at The Village Church, 151 Shell Point Blvd, Fort Myers. Doors open at 6:30pm. The three-time winner of the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest has performed internationally and is ideally suited for silent film accompaniment.     The Fort Myers Beach Art Gallery is now open WE & TH 9am-noon at Donora & Shellmound, behind Fire Station 31. The Fort Myers Beach Art Association is a long-standing, member-operated not-for-profit art association. New members are always welcome. The Gallery is open to all with free admission.     Every child should know how to swim. Beach Pool and the FMB Kiwanis Club are joining forces to provide American Red Cross Swim Lessons for children ages 6 months and up. Fees for each session are $40, but the Kiwanis will pay $20 for children under the age of 18, making the cost only $20! The next series of lessons begin Aug 13th for Saturday sessions and July 25th for MO-TH sessions. To schedule swim lessons, call 239-463-5759 or stop by the pool. Keep children safe around water! Let the Beach Pool teach them to swim.
