    The parking lot at Lynn Hall Park on Fort Myers Beach will be closed all day on Monday, July 10, and until noon on Tuesday, July 11, as crews complete regularly scheduled asphalt maintenance (weather permitting).


    It’s turtle nesting season on our beach. Please do your part to protect the turtles, nests and hatchlings when they emerge! Shield your lights so that they are not visible from anywhere on the beach. Better yet, replace existing bulbs with Amber LED bulbs! Find lights here: bit.ly/turtlelites. Stack or remove beach furniture. Remove beach litter. Keep pets on a leash. Stay far away from any turtles or marked nests you may encounter! Fill in any holes you dig in the sand.     Join Island friends and family at Chapel by the Sea for an Italian Spaghetti Dinner on SA July 8 from 5-7pm in Silver Hall. On the menu: Spaghetti, meatballs, spicy sausage w/peppers & onion, salad, garlic bread, dessert, cold drinks & coffee. $10 adults; $5 kids under 10 and Public Safety Personnel in uniform or with ID. Everyone welcome. Proceeds benefit the fund for kitchen renovation.


    The Mobile Mammo center will be at Fish Tale Marina on MO, July 10 from 9am-1pm offering mammograms. Brought to the beach by Radiology Regional Center, they encourage women who are due for this important screening test to call 239-936-4068. Bring photo ID, and insurance card. A physician order is not required.


    Chapel by the Sea is sponsoring a 3-part program designed to connect people and resources with innovative ideas and strategies to live a healthy lifestyle as we age. Free and open to the public. July 11 from 10-11am. Continues on July 18 and July 25. RSVP to 239-463-3173.


    The Fort Myers Beach Soccer Club Season starts in July for U18 boys and girls born between Aug 1999 & July 2003. Younger age groups (U6, U8, U10, U12 and U15) start in early August for players born between August 2003 & Jan 2013. Teams are forming now.  On-line registration is available at www.fmbsoccer.com.


    Islanders are invited to comment on the new 10-year management plan for Matanzas Pass Preserve. The plan has been updated to reflect the work done on the preserve site and is available for pubic review until July 18 at the Beach Library or online at bit.ly/mppnewplan A public meeting will be held on TU July 18 at 4:30pm at the Red Coconut Clubhouse, 3001 Estero Blvd, FMB.     Summer is swim lesson time. The Beach pool offers lessons for just $20 thanks to the support of the Beach Kiwanis Club’s “Every Child a Swimmer” program. The next weekday sessions will be July 17-27. The next Saturday session will be July 29-Sept 2.For more information and class times call the pool 239-463-5759.

     SPIRIT OF ‘45

    Sponsors are urgently needed for this annual tribute to WWII veterans! Area businesses and individuals are asked to consider becoming a sponsor so this program is able to continue to recognize area WWII veterans. Sponsorships start at just $50. The Spirit of ’45 event will be held SU August 13 from 4:15-7:15pm at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort. It includes a Color Guard, POW/MIA Service, Guest Speakers, Guns ‘N Hoses & bagpiper performances, several speeches by area veterans, Taps and more.     LeeTran invites students age 18 and younger to explore Lee County with a Summer Bus Bash Scavenger Hunt. Students are encouraged to ride the bus from July 10-Aug 6 to visit select businesses and be entered to win great prizes. Pick up a scavenger hunt map on any LeeTran bus or at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 2250 Widman Way, Fort Myers. Students can ride LeeTran for half price all year with a LeeTran Student ID, available at the Rosa Parks Center. Proof of student status and a photo ID, social security card, birth certificate or a parent/legal guardian are needed to obtain a LeeTran Student ID for $1.
