    St. Peter Lutheran Church presents the annual Christmas Hymn Sing on TU, Dec 8 at 7pm. This popular holiday program will be led by Robert Beane, lead tenor for the Ft. Myers Mastersingers and will feature all the favorite Carols of Christmas. The event is free and all are welcome. 3751 Estero Blvd. 239-463-4251.


    Islanders are invited to stop by Royal Scoop, 2307 Estero Blvd, to select an ornament off the tree with a suggestion for a gift for an area senior citizen. Select an ornament, buy the gift and return it to the tree and you can help a senior have a happy Christmas!


    Enjoy our area’s finest delicacy, Gulf Pink Shrimp, at the monthly Shrimp Dinner offered at Historic St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church, 5601 Williams Dr. on SA Dec 12 from 5-7pm. All you can eat GULF shrimp, homemade cole slaw, baked beans, cornbread, beer, wine, soda and dessert. $20/per person.


    Hope Hospice will present the “Five Wishes” program on MO Dec 14 at 12:30 pm at St Peter Lutheran Church, 3751 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach. This is a program to discuss and help document your personal preferences for your health care choices. There is no charge for the program and you will receive an easy to use guide which can become your advance directive and guide for your wishes for illness care, health care surrogate, type of care you want, and what you want your loved ones to know. This is open to people of all ages. Bring a friend! The time to discuss this issue is now! All are welcome.


    Come out and support local businesses affected by road construction. Each Thursday, the Chamber of Commerce urges Islanders to participate in CASH MOB THURSDAY to support businesses in a different area of the construction zone. On TH, Dec 10 visit Hooters, Mr. Tequila’s, Tuckaway, Twisted Scissors and Royal Scoop Ice Cream anytime between 11am and 7pm. Think Local, Shop Local, Buy Local, Join the Mob!


    Looking for an open forum to express your ideas about what’s going on in our area? Interested residents are invited to come to a meeting this Tuesday, December 8th at 7pm at Bonita Bill’s to discuss the formation of a new Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Civic Association. Meeting will be officiated by Charlie Whitehead.

    The FMB Woman’s Club has announced the dates of their three fundraisers of the season. The Style Show Luncheon will be on Jan 23 with fashions by Rebecca’s of North Naples. The annual “Attic Treasures” Flea Market will be held on Jan 30. They are looking for small appliances, art, small furniture, linens, tools and toys. Please bring to the clubhouse at 175 Sterling St on TU or FR 9:30am-2:30pm. The Tour of Homes will be held the 21st or 28th of January. They are looking for beautiful homes.     The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 274 on Buttonwood Drive is looking for the names of servicemen/women serving in our armed services in Iraq, Iran, Syria and Afghanistan, so that they can send them care packages. If you have a son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandson or granddaughter serving, please drop off their name and address at the American Legion on Buttonwood Drive or call Sue Eaton (National Security Chairman) at 239-466-6256. You or they do not have to be a resident of Florida.


    Local author and illustrator James Swerneman will be at the Beach Baptist Farmer’s Market each WE in December from 9am-2pm to sign his books in the children’s series, Adventures of Ta and Boddington. The books will be available for $15 or $40 for three. The colorful books feature friendly wooly mammoths and not-so-friendly saber-toothed tigers.


    Have some items you want to sell but don’t want the hassle of hosting your own yard sale? You’re in luck, Bay Oaks Recreation Center is hosting a community yard sale on SA Dec 12 from 8am-noon. The community is encouraged to attend and participate! Bay Oaks will provide the tables and customers. The sale will take place inside the gym. Call about renting a table or two. 239-765-4222.

    Each week Lee County Parks and the Town of Fort Myers Beach offers free walks with a trained naturalist. No registration needed, just show up and learn something about our environment. All walks are from 9:30-11am unless otherwise noted.

    The Fort Myers Beach Shrine Club at 19171 San Carlos Blvd hosts bingo each Friday night. Early bird bingo starts at 6:30 with regular bingo at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come and play. Free coffee during the session with free donuts at intermission.
