    DON WADE SHRIMP BOIL

    VFW Post 10097, 17770 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers Beach, will host a Shrimp Boil Dinner on SU, Feb 21, from 4-7:00pm. The Shrimp Boil features local shrimp, corn and coleslaw to raise funds to support our local veterans programs through the Don Wade Memorial Foundation. For only $11, everyone is welcome to attend the Shrimp Boil dinner for food, fun, raffles and music by Bubba. For more info call 239-466-6400.

    MOUND HOUSE EVENTS

    Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs for local residents, visitors and school groups. Experience this one of a kind museum that sits atop a 2,000 year old Calusa Indian Shell Mound. Open TU-SA 9am-4pm through Apr 30th. Admission $10/adults; $5/ages 6-12.     ART GALLERY

    The Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery will host two new exhibitions beginning next week. On Feb 20, an Outdoor Painters Group exhibit will be on display in Studio II. It will be on display until March 10. On Feb 22, the Winter Juried show, sponsored by Matanzas on the Bay will open and hang until Mar 24. A reception will be held Feb 28, beginning with a gallery talk by Patty Kane at 1pm, refreshments at 2:15 and ceremony at 3pm. Paintings are also available for sale. Admission is free.     GRAND RESORTS MEETING

    Grand Resorts FMB will hold their third Public Information Meeting regarding the proposed redevelopment project in the downtown district of Fort Myers Beach on MO Feb 22 from 5:30-7:30pm at Bay Oaks Recreation Center, 2731 Oak St. Fort Myers Beach.     SAFE WOMEN CLASS

    A self defense class for females age 13-100 will be offered on WE Feb 24 from 10am-Noon at Chapel by the Sea in Silver Hall. Class includes personal safety tips and practical exercises. $5 fee. Must preregister. Call 239-463-3173 x 10.

     YACHT CLUB MEETING

     PLANT SALE

    The Lakes Park Fragrance Garden will host a plant sale from 9am-noon on the last WE each month through April at Lakes Park, 7330 Gladiolus Dr. Enjoy the gardens and visit with Master Gardeners. Next Sale is WE Feb 24th. Parking fee.

    SKIN CANCER-TARGETED THERAPY

    Shell Point Retirement Community will host Dr. Ryan  Sullivan, medical oncologist with Massachusetts General Hospital will give an address on “Skin Cancer-Emerging Targeted Therapies for melanoma,” as part of Shell Point’s Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries Series.     POKER RUN

    VFW Post 10097 is holding a Poker Run to raise funds for the VFW Relief Fund on SU Feb 28 from 10am-Noon. Registration $20/driver; $10/rider. Last bike out at noon, must be in by 4:10pm.      PARADISE COASTMEN CONCERT

    The Paradise Coastmen Barbershop Chorus will perform in concert on TU Mar 1 at 7:30pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church. This fun-filled evening will include barbershop, pop, folk and patriotic favorites. Doors open at 7pm. Free will offering. 3751 Estero Blvd, FMB.

     REAL ESTATE TRENDS

    WHEN SINGING SOARS

    The Chapel by the Sea Concert Series will present their final concert of the season featuring Douglas Renfroe, bass baritone, and Helen Tintes-Schuermann, contralto. They will combine forces to offer an evening of exceptional entertainment through excellence in singing. Abigail Allison will be the pianist for the evening. The concert will be held on TH, Mar 3 at 7pm at Chapel by the Sea. Free Will offering.

    SHELL FESTIVAL

    The 79th Annual Sanibel Shell Festival will be held on March 3-5, 2016 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Sponsored by the Sanibel Community Association and the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club, all funds raised support local marine education and the Sanibel Community House. Demonstrations, shell artists, raffles, shell displays and more. No fee for the Shell Festival grounds, $5 donation requested to attend Shell Show.

     SMOKIN’ IN THE MANGROVES

    The 5th Annual Smokin’ in the Mangroves BBQ Competition will be held on SA March 5 from 9am-2pm at Santini Marina Plaza. BBQ competitors, both local and pro teams will compete for trophies.     DRIVER SAFETY CLASS

    AARP is sponsoring a Driver Safety Class at Chapel by the Sea on FR March 18 from 9am-3:30pm. This class reduces a driver’s risk for accidents. Included are ways to adjust your driving due to age-related physical changes & recent FL law changes.
