    FMB GOT TALENT

    The 3rd Annual FMB Got Talent competition will commence this SA Feb 13 at Santini Marina Plaza. Locals and visitors are invited to share their talents in one of two divisions: Juniors, ages 5-15 and Seniors, ages 16 and up. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in both divisions. The event will run from 9am-2pm and include arts and crafts vendors, BBQ by the Bones Brothers and the talent competition. Juniors should register by 10:30am, competition begins at 11am.      GIRL SCOUT COOKIE TIME

    Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-si-dos – those words can mean only one thing – It’s Girl Scout Cookie Time and those cookies, plus several others will be available beginning this weekend. Help area girls learn important skills and grab some delicious cookies for yourself! Cookie booths will be available at the FMB Publix most weekdays from 4-8pm and weekends from 10am-8pm.      ZEN DOODLING CLASS

    Join award winning nature artist and Edison Ford Conservator, Megan Kissinger, as she guides you in a drawing class on SA Feb 13 from 10am-1pm. No artistic ability required. Creativity is the goal of this class, as participants will be inspired by the nature and gardens at Edison Ford. $40 Edison Ford members; $60 non-members. Register by calling          239-334-7419.

     BOOK SIGNINGS

    Fort Myers Beach author Mary Tatarian, writing as Mariah Lynn will be signing her latest time travel adventure, “Shadows Across Time,” on MO Feb 15 from 10am-2pm at Annette’s Book Nook in Santini Marina Plaza. Mariah Lynne’s other books include “The Love Gypsy,” “The Duchess’ Necklace” and “Seabliss.”

     Florida author Lona Root Haskins will hold a book singing at Annette’s Book Nook, Santini Marina Plaza on TU Feb 16 from 9:30am-1pm. She will be signing the biography/memoir she wrote about her parents, “Humble Roots: Earl and Caroline.” Stop in for your own signed copy.

     FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON

    The Ascension Catholic Women will sponsor their annual fashion show and luncheon TU Feb 16, at the Church of the Ascension Parish Hall, 6025 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach. Fashions by Leani’s of Santini Plaza. Doors open at 11:30. Seats are limited and sell out fast! Proceeds support the group’s area charitable efforts.      HISTORICAL PRESENTATIONS

    The Estero Island Historic Society offers free presentations on local historic topics each season at the Fort Myers Beach Library Community Room. On WE Feb 17 at 7pm, Robert Macomber, award-winning author, historian and perennial favorite EIHS speaker will present a fascinating exploration of the crucial role played by Key West in the Civil War. A book signing will follow featuring “Assassin’s Honor.”

     WATER PROTEST

    The SWFL Clean Water Movement will hold a rally to protest the Lake Okeechobee discharges into the Caloosahatchee River on SA Feb 13 from 4-7pm on the Matanzas Pass Bridge. For more information visit the SWFL Clean Water page on Facebook.

    LIVING WITH ALZMEIMER’S

    The Alzheimer’s Association will present “Living with Alzheimer’s” February 18th, 25th and March 3rd, 10am-noon at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fort Myers Beach. Attend this 3-part series to learn about the Basics of Alzheimer’s diseases, effective communication strategies, understanding and responding to dementia-related behavior and planning for future care needs.      WOUNDED WARRIOR BIKE RIDE

    Residents of The Groves RV Resort invite everyone to join them on their monthly bike ride poker run to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior program. On the 3rd Friday of each month through March, they will ride about 10 miles with a few stops. Cost is $10/ride with half going to Wounded Warriors.      DON WADE SHRIMP BOIL

    VFW Post 10097, 17770 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers Beach, will host a Shrimp Boil Dinner on SU, Feb 21, from 4-7:00pm. The Shrimp Boil features local shrimp, corn and coleslaw to raise funds to support our local veterans programs through the Don Wade Memorial Foundation.      GRAND RESORTS MEETING

    Grand Resorts FMB will hold another Public Information Meeting regarding the proposed redevelopment project in the downtown district of Fort Myers Beach on MO Feb 22 from 5:30-7:30pm at Bay Oaks Recreation Center, 2731 Oak St. Fort Myers Beach.      MOON WALK

    The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will conduct its monthly “By the Light of the Moon” program on MO Feb 22 beginning at 6pm. Awaken and sharpen your sense of smell, touch, hearing and night vision as you join two volunteers with candlelit lanterns as they guide you through the Preserve by the light of the moon.      SAFE WOMEN CLASS

    A self defense class for females age 13-100 will be offered on WE Feb 24 from 10am-Noon at Chapel by the Sea in Silver Hall. Class includes personal safety tips and practical exercises. $5 fee. Must preregister. Call 239-463-3173 x 10.

     VISIONS OF THE PAST

    Travel back in time as your guide leads you along a boardwalk trail in the Matanzas Pass Preserve and you visit with Calusa Indians, Spanish Explorers, Pirates, homesteaders and Pioneers of Fort Myers Beach during the Visions of the Past event on SA Feb 27 from 9am-1pm Experience the facts, folklore and customs of bygone eras.      POKER RUN

    VFW Post 10097 is holding a Poker Run to raise funds for the VFW Relief Fund on SU Feb 28 from 10am-Noon. Registration $20/driver; $10/rider. Last bike out at noon, must be in by 4:10pm.      HOMECOOKING COOKBOOK

    The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 274 of Ft. Myers Beach is offering their new cookbook, OPERATION HOMECOOKING for a donation of $10. The Auxiliary supports our Veterans and overseas Troops with projects throughout the year. The sale of this cookbook raises money for shipping boxes to our troops overseas. With your donation you will receive this great cookbook to keep for yourself or to give as a gift. The cookbook can be purchased at the Post at 899 Buttonwood Drive.

    BOAT BARN CONCERT

    Mark your calendar for the final two concerts in The Friends of the Arts (FOA) Boat Barn Concert Series. On TH, Mar 24, “The Jazz-Matics featuring Lynn Richardson will perform. And on TH Apr 7, Jo List and Friends will close out the concert season with Joe McConaghy, Michael Oakland, Bill Rountree and Carveth Clauson. All FOA concerts are held from 7-9pm in a cabaret-like setting in one of Fish Tale Marina’s boat barns. Tickets are $25/concert and are available at the Fish Tale office.
