    Does your child know how to swim? Beach Pool and the FMB Kiwanis Club are joining forces to provide American Red Cross Swim Lessons for children ages 6 months and up. Fees for each session are $40, but the Kiwanis will pay $20 for children under the age of 18, making the cost only $20! The next series of lessons begin June 13th for MO-TH sessions and June 25th for Saturday sessions. To schedule swim lessons, call 239-463-5759 or stop by the pool. Keep children safe around water!     Chapel by the Sea and the Area Agency on Aging SWFL will present a free program on MO June 20, “Elder Abuse Awareness & Prevention” at Chapel by the Sea’s Silver Hall. The program will provide older adults, caregivers and professionals with information and training relevant to elder rights. Topics will include abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. Learn how to protect your loved ones. Free and open to all.



    There are vacancies on the following volunteer Town Advisory Committees: Anchorage Advisory Committee, Audit Committee, Community Resource Advisory Board, Local Planning Agency and Public Safety Committee. Most advisory committees meet once a month. Anyone interested in serving on one of these committees is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Town Council in care of the Town Clerk. The Council may make appointments at the June 20, 2016 Council meeting, so apply as soon as possible by sending an email to



    Head to The Marina at Edison Ford and Pinchers on SU, June 19 from noon-2pm (or as long as the fish last) to learn Gyotaku fish t-shirt printing, a tradition at Edison Ford for many years. Using fresh fish from Pinchers, lots of volunteers and the Edison Ford Wild Wizard, everyone is invited to join the fun. All you need is a clean t-shirt (bring your own or buy one there). Dads, kids and moms will learn basic fish anatomy and there will be touch tables also. Pre-register by calling Leanne at 239-334-7419 Pre-registered Edison members $10; non-members $15.     The 2015 Lee County Delicious Dining Discounts Book from the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers Gateway to the Islands is now available for just $25. The book offers BOG (By One, Get One) dining discounts at 64 area restaurants, including 12 FMB locations. Most off-season discounts are valid now-Nov 15, so pick up yours soon. The project supports Kiwanis youth-related projects including the Gladiolus Learning and Development Center, Healthy Start, United Way reading Program and Human Trafficking Awareness Program. Pick up your Dining Discount Book at the Kiwanis Thrift Store, FMB Chamber of Commerce office or Roxie, Gavin’s Ace Hardware or the UPS Store.

    The 7th annual Popeyepalooza benefit to support youth athletics of Fort Myers Beach and Lee County will be held at Beach Pub on SU June 26. Organizer Mike “Popeye” Dearden, this year’s event will feature great BBQ and sides, live music, a silent auction, 50/50 raffles and more.     The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will sponsor a Coastal Module of the Florida master naturalist Program this fall. The program will have six class sessions on Tuesdays, Oct 18 – Nov 22. The program will include class sessions, presentations and field trips. Field trips will include the Lovers’ Key Beach, Matanzas Pass Preserve, Bunche Beach Bird Walk, Mound Key and the Estero Bay Buffer Preserve. Three scientists will lecture on subjects including beach dynamics, sea level rise and the formation of barrier islands. Classes will be held at Newton House on Fort Myer Beach.     Any students who have not registered for the 2016-2017 school year are asked to bring their parents to Beach School at 2751 Oak Street by June 15 to get them registered. Incoming KG must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2016 to enroll this year. New students will need: an original birth certificate, a health exam, shot records, proof of residence, proof of custody (if applicable) and parents driver’s license.     Have fun serving your community and others! The Fort Myers Beach Lions meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at St. Raphael’s Parish Hall, 5601 Williams Dr, FMB.     The 30th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championships on FMB is now accepting vendor applications. The event will be held Nov. 18-27, 2016 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel on FMB.     The FMB Woman’s Club has been a wonderful gathering place for different events for many years, located behind Mid-Island Laundry/Car Wash on Sterling St. They invite all bridge players (men & women) to play on TU and/or FR at 9:30am. Bring your own lunch. Members $3 with change for prize money; Non-members $5 + prize money. They hope to form a Mah Jongg group or any kind of cards or activity that is beneficial to the island. Their membership drive is going on now. Yearly dues $75 which contributes to upkeep of the building, which was once the beach’s schoolhouse. The Club holds fundraisers to help with expenses and donate to local worthy causes. They invite everyone to participate in their events. Meet new beach neighbors.
