    LITTLE LEAGUE
    Closing Day for this spring’s Little League season will be celebrated this SA, May 21st at the Bay Oaks diamonds. Games will begin at 9am with T-ball and all teams will play. An awards ceremony will be held at noon. The community is invited to attend. Nothing is as much fun as watching a T-ball game, so come out, grab a hot dog and enjoy some great baseball fun with Island families!

    PROTECT OUR TURTLES
    It’s turtle nesting season on our beach. Please do your part to protect the turtles, nests and hatchlings when they emerge! Shield your lights so that they are not visible from anywhere on the beach. Better yet, replace existing bulbs with Amber LED bulbs! Find lights here: bit.ly/turtlelites Stack or remove beach furniture. Remove beach litter. Keep pets on a leash. Stay far away from any turtles or marked nests you may encounter!     PIANO RECITAL
    A Children’s Piano Recital will be held at Chapel by the Sea on SU, May 22 at 1pm in the Sanctuary. Students from the Michael and Elena Melnikov Piano Studio will perform. Come enjoy some beautiful music by these young musicians in this family-oriented entertainment showcasing young talent. A reception follows in Silver Hall.

    4th OF JULY PARADE
    The Town of FMB Parks & Rec Dept is accepting applications for the 10th annual 4th of July Parade. The parade will be held at 10am Monday, July 4th. The route will start at the corner of Bay Road and Estero Blvd and end at the base of the Matanzas Pass Bridge. Parade applications can be found at Town Hall or Bay Oaks Rec Center, on the Town’s website or by visiting BayOaksRec.org. Questions may be directed to Bay Oaks staff 239-765-4222.

    HIBISCUS SHOW
    The James E. Hendry Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society will host their 65th annual Hibiscus Show & Plant Sale on SU, June 5 from 1-4pm at Araba Temple, 2010 Hanson St, Fort Myers. This free show is the oldest, largest and best attended of all Florida’s hibiscus shows. More than 650 hybrid Hibiscus plants will be offered for sale. Free raffle tickets, free advice on plant care available. Parking and admission are free. The Hibiscus Society meets the second Sunday of each month from October-May.     MARKET SEASON ENDS
    The Santini Sunrise Fresh Market has closed for the season. The Farmer’s Market at Beach Baptist will continue one more week on WE May 25 from 9am-2pm.

    MOUND HOUSE EVENTS
    Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs for local residents, visitors and school groups.     VCA MEMORIAL DAY
    The Veterans Club of America (VCA), located at 16701 San Carlos Blvd., will be observing the 150th Anniversary of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30th at 11am. Ceremonies will include a bugler, bagpipes and the VCA Honor Guard. Iona-McGregor Fire Department will be in attendance. Speeches by VCA Commander George Rook, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott and Eagle Scout Jacob Peters, Troop 714. Following the ceremony, a complimentary lunch will be provided by Mission BBQ. This event is open to the public and families are welcome. Please take a moment from your day to join us in reflection of the brave sacrifices of those who have given their lives for this great nation.

    VFW MEMORIAL DAY
    Post 10097 of the VFW will hold a Memorial Day event on Monday, May 30th at 11am. Honor guard and speakers will participate and Eternal Wreaths will be donating memorials, inscribed with the names of crewmembers lost in the crash of a B-26 in the Gulf in 1942.     AMERICAN LEGION
    Post 274 of the American Legion will celebrate Memorial Day at 11am on Monday, May 30th. They will present, “Tribute to an American Hero” on May 28 from 1-4:30pm featuring Marine Corps Sgt. Jeff Kyle, brother of Navy Seal Chris Kyle, who was featured in the film, American Sniper.” 463-6591.

    LOVERS KEY STATE PARK

    DINING DISCOUNT BOOK
    The 2015 Lee County Delicious Dining Discounts Book from the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers Gateway to the Islands is now available for just $25. The book offers BOGO (By One, Get One) dining discounts at 64 area restaurants, including 12 FMB locations. Most off-season discounts are valid Apr 15-Nov 15, so pick up yours soon. The project supports Kiwanis youth-related projects including the Gladiolus Learning and Development Center, Healthy Start, United Way reading Program and Human Trafficking Awareness Program. Pick up your Dining Discount Book at the Kiwanis Thrift Store, FMB Chamber of Commerce office or Roxie, Gavin’s Ace Hardware or the UPS Store.
    BEACH POOL SWIM LESSONS
    If your child fell into a pool, could they swim to the ladder to get out? Every child should know how to swim. Beach Pool and the FMB Kiwanis Club are joining forces to provide American Red Cross Swim Lessons for children ages 6 months and up. Fees for each session are $40, but the Kiwanis will pay $20 for children under the age of 18, making the cost only $20! The next series of lessons begin June 13th for MO-TH sessions and June 25th for Saturday sessions. To schedule swim lessons, call 239-463-5759 or stop by the pool. Keep children safe around water! Let the Beach Pool teach them to swim.
