FORT MYERS WAR ROLE
The Estero Island Historic Society invites the public to their final Public Meeting of the 2015-16 season on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 7pm in the 3rd floor Community Room of the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, 2755 Estero Blvd. Hank Hendry will speak about Fort Myers and the role it played in the Indian Wars and Civil War here in Florida. Hendry has Fort Myers history in his blood. His great-great grandfather, Capt. Francis Asbury Hendry, attacked Fort Myers with his Confederate “Cow Cavalry” during the Battle of Fort Myers on Feb. 20, 1865. They withdrew after about a half-day of fighting during the southernmost land skirmish of the Civil War. Public meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Donations are welcome. SONGWRITERS AT SUNSET
This concert series concludes with a final concert on TU Mar 15 from 5:30-7:30pm at Lover’s Key State Park when 3 local musicians Ray Cerbone, Joe Virga and Melissa Welke will perform in a Songwriters at Sunset Concert. The Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS) joined with the Americana Community Music Association to offer free monthly Acoustic concerts this season. The concert is free with park entry. Seating available for the first 80 people. Refreshments available by donation benefitting FOLKS.
AVE MARIA CONCERT
The Ave Maria University Choir will perform at St. Peter Lutheran Church TH Mar 17 at 7:30pm. FRIENDS OF THE MOUND HOUSE
The Friends of the Mound House will be holding its monthly meeting on FR, Mar 18 at 2pm at Newton Park, 4650 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach. Guest speakers will be Lana and Erik Petersen, long-term residents of FMB and friends of Jim and Ellie Newton, the original owners of Newton Park, formerly known as “Seven Seas.” The Petersen’s will be speaking about their memories of living here and being guests of the Newtons at “Seven Seas.” All are welcome.

The Friends of the Arts (FOA) Boat Barn Concert Series continues on TH, Mar 24, when the Jazz-Matics featuring Lynn Richardson take to the stage with a smooth jazz show you won’t soon forget. ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with the Island’s 18th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on TH Mar 17th! Festivities begin in Santini Marina Plaza at 8am at Castaway’s with bagpipes and live music. Parade entrants should report to the plaza parking lot at 8:30-9am. The parade begins at 10am and marches north to the Church of the Ascension and includes a Color Guard, civic, business and neighborhood groups, floats and musical bands. Traffic will be stopped on Estero Boulevard from Santini Plaza to Ascension Church between 9:45 and 11:00 AM with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office so residents and visitors should plan ahead if they need to leave the island that morning.
WOUNDED WARRIOR BIKE RIDE
Residents of The Groves RV Resort invite everyone to join them on their monthly bike ride poker run to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior program. Their last ride of the season will be held on FR Mar 18. They ride about 10 miles with a few stops. Cost is $10/ride with half going to Wounded Warriors. The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will conduct its monthly “By the Light of the Moon” program on WE Mar 23 beginning at 7:10pm. Awaken and sharpen your sense of smell, touch, hearing and night vision as you join two volunteers with candlelit lanterns as they guide you through the Preserve by the light of the moon.
