    KIDS SHRIMP RUN

    Kids from Kindergarten to 5th grade are invited to participate in a FREE Kids Shrimp Run this SA, March 5. Registration 7am. Run begins at 8am. Meet on the beach at Gulf Beach Rd access, across from Topps. T-shirts provided by Beach School.

    SMOKIN’ IN THE MANGROVES

    The 5th Annual Smokin’ in the Mangroves BBQ Competition will be held on SA March 5 from 9am-2pm at Santini Marina Plaza. BBQ competitors, both local and pro teams will compete for trophies. The Bugtussle Ramblers will provide Bluegrass entertainment. Arts and crafts vendors fill the street market. Just follow your nose to the best BBQ in town!

    PEOPLES CHOICE PRINCESS VOTE

    Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite Shrimp Princess at BeachLionsFoundation.com The People’s Choice Award is determined by votes cast online. Each vote requires a $3 donation to the Lions We Serve Scholarship Fund. Vote Early! Vote Often! Winner will be named at the Pageant at 1pm Saturday.

    SHRIMP DINNER

    Enjoy our area’s finest delicacy, Gulf Pink Shrimp, at the monthly Shrimp Dinner offered at Historic St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church, 5601 Williams Dr. on SA Mar 5 from 5-7pm. All you can eat GULF shrimp, homemade cole slaw, baked beans, cornbread, beer, wine, soda and dessert. $20/per person.

    CAR SHOW

    The Caribbean Car Show will be held two Monday’s in March and April. Cruise on over to Salty Sam’s on MO Mar 7th and 21st and Apr 4th and 18th from 5-7pm. The show includes hot rods, custom trucks and classic cars. Free and open to the public. 239-463-3257.

    LOCAL AUTHOR

    Jeri Magg, Author and historian will speak at the Mar 11th meeting of the Friends of Lakes Library at 1pm. Magg, author of “Historic Sanibel and Captiva Islands-Tales of Paradise, will speak and sign books. 15290 Bass Rd.

    SONGWRITERS AT SUNSET

    This concert series concludes with a final concert on TU Mar 15 from 5:30-7:30pm at Lover’s Key State Park when 3 local musicians Ray Cerbone, Joe Virga and Melissa Welke will perform in a Songwriters at Sunset Concert. The Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS) joined with the Americana Community Music Association to offer free monthly Acoustic concerts this season. The concert is free with park entry. Seating available for the first 80 people. Refreshments available by donation benefitting FOLKS.

    DRIVER SAFETY CLASS

    AARP is sponsoring a Driver Safety Class at Chapel by the Sea on FR March 18 from 9am-3:30pm. This class reduces a driver’s risk for accidents. Included are ways to adjust your driving due to age-related physical changes & recent FL law changes.     FASHION SHOW

    The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation will present their Spring Luncheon Fashion Show, “Friends, Fun & Fashion” on SA March 19 at 11am at South Beach Grille. Fashions by Local Color.      NAUTICAL FLEA MARKET & BOAT SHOW

    The Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS) and Rotary Club of Bonita Springs will sponsor the Lovers Key Nautical flea Market and Boat Show from 9am-5pm FR Mar 18- SU Mar 20 at Lovers Key State Park featuring nautical exhibitors selling arts, crafts, clothing, fishing and cruising equipment as well as boat dealers.     BIZ EXIT STRATEGY

    IberiaBank and the Florida Small Business Development Center at FGCU will host a free seminar to help small business owners design their exit strategy. The seminar will be held at IberiaBank, 7580 Winkler Rd. Led by Duane Hoversten, a certified FSBDC business consultant, the lecture will be held WE Mar 16.     BOAT BARN CONCERTS

    The Friends of the Arts (FOA) Boat Barn Concert Series continues on TH, Mar 24, when the Jazz-Matics featuring Lynn Richardson take to the stage with a smooth jazz show you won’t soon forget. On TH, Apr 7 Jo List & Friends bring their popular show back to the Barn with Joe McConaghy on keyboards, singer/songwriter Michael Oakland on guitar, Bill Rountree on bass and vocals and percussionist Carveth Clauson. Tickets are $25/concert and are available now at the Fish Tale Marina office.

    MOUND HOUSE EVENTS

    Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs for local residents, visitors and school groups.     ART GALLERY

    The Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery is hosting two exhibitions. The Spring Juried show will hang until Mar 24. Winners of Spring Show include: Tracey Owen Cullimore-Lucy B. Campbell Award and Best of Show; 1st Prize-Kathleen C. Taylor; 2nd Prize-Dannica Walker; 3rd Prize-Maggie Rapp. Lee Ackert Award-Cheryl Fausel and Florida Watercolor Award-Judi Miller. An Outdoor Painters Group exhibit will be on display in Studio II until March 10. A Watercolor Group show will then hang from Mar 12-24. Admission is free.     OVERSEAS MILITARY

    The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 274 on Buttonwood Drive is looking for the names of servicemen/women serving in our armed services in Iraq, Iran, Syria and Afghanistan, so that they can send them care packages. If you have a son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandson or granddaughter serving, please drop off their name and address at the American Legion on Buttonwood Drive or call Sue Eaton (National Security Chairman) at 239-466-6256.     FREE GUIDED BEACH WALKS

    Each week Lee County Parks and the Town of Fort Myers Beach offers free walks with a trained naturalist. No registration needed, just show up and learn something about our beautiful environment. All walks are from 9:30-11am unless otherwise noted.
