    VISIONS OF THE PAST

    NATIVE PLANT SALE

    Travel back in time on a guided journey along the boardwalk trail at Matanzas Pass Preserve as you visit Calusa Indians, Spanish Explorers, Pirates and more this SA Feb 27 from 9am-1pm.     SHRIMP FESTIVAL

    The 58th Fort Myers Beach Lions Shrimp Festival is just around the corner. A Lions Kids Shrimp Run will take place on the beach on SA Mar 5 beginning at Gulf Beach Road (across from Topps). Registration at 8am, run at 9am. The 5K Shrimp Run on SA Mar 12 will begin at Doc Ford’s, but will still include crossing the bridge (twice) and running along a portion of the parade route. The Parade will kick off at 10am SA and follow the traditional route from School St. to Lynn Hall Park. The Food, Fun and Crafts Expo will be in the park both SA and SU all day, along with Shrimp Dinners and Festival Gear, while they last. The 2016 Shrimp Festival Queen will be crowned at 1pm SA at the park pavilion. A Shrimp Eating Championship will be held at 1pm SU, Mar 13.     PARADISE COASTMEN CONCERT

    The Paradise Coastmen Barbershop Chorus will perform in concert on TU Mar 1 at 7:30pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church. This fun-filled evening will include barbershop, pop, folk and patriotic favorites. Doors open at 7pm. Free will offering. 3751 Estero Blvd, FMB.

     

    REAL ESTATE TRENDS

    What will Florida’s real estate market look like in the coming year? Come to the Market Update offered by TeamSwanbeck on WE Mar 2 at 9:30am at the Beach Library 3rd floor Community Room. Karen Swanbeck will share 2016 Florida Real Estate Trends presented recently at the Florida Realtors Mid-Winter meeting. Free.     CANDIDATE FORUMS

    A group of local residents will host an informal forum for all Town Council candidates on WE Mar 2 from 6:30-8:30pm in the Chapel by the Sea Silver Hall. All residents are invited to attend and ask questions.

    On TH Mar 3 at 7pm, another group of residents will host a Candidate Forum in a boat barn at Fish Tale Marina behind Santini Marina Plaza. All residents are welcome and may ask questions of the candidates.

     

    CHAPEL CONCERT

    The Chapel by the Sea Concert Series will close the season with a concert featuring Douglas Renfroe, bass baritone, and Helen Tintes-Schuermann, contralto. They will combine forces to offer an evening of exceptional entertainment. Abigail Allison will be the pianist for the evening. The concert will be held on TH, Mar 3 at 7pm at Chapel by the Sea. Free will offering.

     

    THRIVE GROUP

    Dr. Deborah Heim, licensed Clinical Psychologist is partnering with Beach Baptist Church to offer a free THRIVE Group each TU from 6:30-8pm for Christian women who have experienced stress, anxiety or depression. Learn coping skills and how to “return to peace and joy.” With 30 years of experience, Dr. Heim also offers individual, couple and family counseling.     MOUND HOUSE EVENTS

    Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs for local residents, visitors and school groups. Experience this one of a kind museum that sits atop a 2,000 year old Calusa Indian Shell Mound. Open TU-SA 9am-4pm through Apr 30th. Admission $10/adults; $5/ages 6-12.     SHELL FESTIVAL

    The 79th Annual Sanibel Shell Festival will be held on March 3-5, 2016 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Sponsored by the Sanibel Community Association and the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club, all funds raised support local marine education and the Sanibel Community House. Demonstrations, shell artists, raffles, shell displays and more. No fee for the Shell Festival grounds, $5 donation requested to attend Shell Show.

     

    SMOKIN’ IN THE MANGROVES

    The 5th Annual Smokin’ in the Mangroves BBQ Competition will be held on SA March 5 from 9am-2pm at Santini Marina Plaza. BBQ competitors, both local and pro teams will compete for trophies. The Bugtussle Ramblers will provide Bluegrass entertainment. Arts and crafts vendors fill the street market. Volunteers needed. Call Bonnie 239-443-8810.

     

    ART SHOW

    Members of the art groups of Indian Creek Resort will present their annual art show on SA, Mar 5 from 9am-3pm. Come enjoy the work of the resort’s many talented artists and consider purchasing some art to take home.

     

    CAR SHOW

    The Caribbean Car Show will be held two Monday’s in March and April. Cruise on over to Salty Sam’s on MO Mar 7th and 21st and Apr 4th and 18th from 5-7pm. The show includes hot rods, custom trucks and classic cars. Free and open to the public. 239-463-3257.

    DRIVER SAFETY CLASS

    AARP is sponsoring a Driver Safety Class at Chapel by the Sea on FR March 18 from 9am-3:30pm. This class reduces a driver’s risk for accidents. Included are ways to adjust your driving due to age-related physical changes & recent FL law changes.
