On January 15, 2016, members of the Estero Island Garden Club celebrated Arbor Day with 4th graders at Fort Myers Beach Elementary School. For the sixth year, the EIGC is participating in the Fourth Grade Foresters USA Project. The goal of this project is to revitalize the observation of Arbor Day in America’s schools and to send every fourth grader home with a tree of their own to plant and care for. The tree that the children received on this Arbor Day is one recommended for growth in our area, and the fourth graders received instructions for the care and planting of their trees. Since 2007, more than 391,000 fourth graders have participated in this project and have planted the seedlings for a forest of the future. Photo courtesy of the Estero Island Garden Club.
