The Sands of Time
The magnificent castles, beloved Holiday characters, cuddly animals, and expressive faces created at the 30th annual American Sand Sculpting Championship are now once again just beach sand, as the competition concluded its 10-day run on Sunday, November 27, behind the Wyndham Garden Hotel.
Sand Sculpting championship titles were awarded Sunday to the Masters Doubles Division and Advanced Amateurs.
Melineige Beauregard & Joris Kivits won 1st Place as well as the People’s Choice Award for “Let’s Meet.”
Delayne Corbett & Craig Mutch took 2nd with “Wings of Imagination,” with Maxim Gazendam & Bruce Phillips in 3rd for “Insight.”
Lisa Fewless from Michigan won the Advanced Amateur National and Florida State Championship with “Making Friends with The Monster.”
Paul Warren finished in 2nd Place with “No More Monkeys,” Dale Andrews came in 3rd with “Sand Castle Factory,” and 4th was Amanda Bolduc with “Pieces of Me.”
Amanda won the People’s Choice Award with the same work.
Feature sculptors represented 5 nations and 12 states with over 400 collective competition medals. “It was a remarkable event,” says Bud Nocera, outgoing president of the Greater Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce.
“We had more vendors than ever, and enjoyed great weather for the entire 10 days that translated into large crowds. I am told they will force me back next year to volunteer; of course, they won’t have to force me very hard!”
The 31st American Sand Sculpting Championship is November 18 to 26, 2017.
