2016 Shrimp Festival

The dates for the 2016 Fort Myers Beach Lions Club Shrimp Festival have been announced – March 12 & 13, 2016. Mark our calendars now! All the fun events that draw thousands to our shores will be in play for this 58th annual event.

5K Shrimp Run — Run by and for the Cypress Lake High School Boosters, this fun run is set to begin at Key Estero Plaza on Saturday, March 12 at 9am.

Shrimp Festival Parade – This 1-mile long parade will begin at 10am on Saturday, March 12th in a new place this year, Bowditch Point Park on the very northern end of the island. The parade will march to the Festival Grounds in Lynn Hall Park. The change in location is due to Estero Blvd construction taking place along the traditional route this year. The Matanzas Bridge will close at 9am, so plan to be on the island early.

Shrimp Festival Queen Pageant – The crowning of the Queen takes place at 1pm on Saturday, March 12th on Festival Grounds. Any girls between 16-20 who would like to be a Shrimp Princess and vie for the Shrimp Queen title are asked to apply now at www.fortmyersbeachshrimpfestival or call/email Pageant Coordinator Tracey Gore at 239-849-3603; t-gore@comcast.net. Awards and prizes including a college scholarship for the Queen and the opportunity to ride atop a fabulous Corvette in the Shrimp Festival parade. This is not a beauty contest and there is no talent competition. The Pageant is looking for friendly, outgoing young ladies who can represent our area.

Food, Fun & Crafts Expo – More than 100 vendors offering crafts, great food and unique gifts on the Festival Grounds. Open 10am-6pm Saturday; 10am-5pm Sunday.

Lions Shrimp Dinners – Local shrimp prepared by those who really know how to cook’em. Last year they served 1,378 lbs. of local Pink Gold shrimp. Hours 10am-5pm Saturday: 10am until they run out Sunday.

Shrimp Eating Championship – This contest was such a success last year that it’s back! Last year’s winner ate 1.4 lbs. in 3 minutes. Watch for details soon.
