200 Pounds of Bottle Caps Collected

Buddy Bench Success

The community effort, led by the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club, to collect enough bottle caps and lids to create a Buddy Bench has met its goal! Last Friday the Lions Club worked with Beach School students to sort and bag bottle caps that will now be used to create a Buddy Bench for the school. The Buddy Bench program is a nationwide program that encourages children to reach out to their peers who may not have a friend to play with. The bench, once created, will be placed at Beach School.

The FMB Lions Club began earlier this year to collect 200 pounds of bottle caps and invited the community to join them and four drop off points were identified: FMB Woman’s Club, FMB Chamber, School and Library. As always, it takes a village…a chance meeting at the Tunaskin/Keep Lee County Beautiful cleanup event, led to a Fort Myers company donating 25 trash bags full of caps, which were hauled by Joe Orlandini’s crew to the Lions Club, which put the project over the top.
